A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Borhanpur village under Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Safia Akhter Shilpi, 25, daughter of Sundor Ali of Afzalpur village in the upazila.
Quoting deceased's family members, police said Hossain Mia, 30, son of Rais Mia of the village, had been torturing his wife Shilpi since their marriage eleven years ago.
At one stage of altercation over the issue on Tuesday night, Hossain stabbed Shilpi with a sharp weapon, leaving her seriously injured.
Family members took him to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared her to dead.
Sub-inspector Kamrul Islam of Madhabpur Police Station police arrested Rais on Wednesday night, following a case filed by the victim's father accusing Hossain and his parents.
