The body of a Chittagong University student was recovered from a flat in the port city's Bayezid area hours after he and three others rented it on Wednesday.
Mohammed Alauddin Alaul's body was found lying face down inside a bathroom with the limbs bound, the hands behind his back and ropes around his neck, Sub-Inspector (SI) Jakir Hossain told The Daily Star.
The 24-year-old-resident of Madanhat village in Hathazari upazila was doing his Masters in Bangla.
Alauddin left home on Wednesday afternoon, telling his father he was going to meet a friend around 5:00pm, the victim's cousin, Mohammed Riad, told journalists at the Chittagong Medical College morgue.
His mother found his cellphone switched off some time after 9:00pm and police informed them of the recovery yesterday afternoon, he said.
The SI quoted the caretaker of the third-floor flat in Syed Para Sahid Nagar as saying that four youths, including the victim and a female, rented the flat around 5:30pm and paid some rent in advance.
The three left around 8:00pm saying they were going shopping and that the victim was cleaning the flat, he added.
The caretaker found the flat's front door wide open around 11:00pm and saw the body before police were informed, he said, adding that filing of a case was underway.
