Law enforcers arrested the chairman of Laxmichhari Upazila Parishad in the hill district, allegedly with a pistol and five bullets, from his Laxmichhari Sadar residence early yesterday.
Relatives of the arrestee, Super Jyoti Chakma, said joint forces surrounded his house at 1:00am and arrested him.
Demanding immediate release of the upazila chairman, Parbatya Chattagram Jumma Protinidhi Sangsad formed a human chain in front of Khagrachhari Press Club yesterday.
Sachib Chakma, central committee member of regional political party United People's Democratic Front, also demanded immediate release of the arrestee.
A case under Arms Act was filed against Super Jyoti Chakma, said Arif Iqbal, OC of Laxmichhari Police Station.
