Prachyanat, a leading theatre troupe of the country, is not just contributing to the country's theatre scenario with their new and acclaimed productions, but have long taken up the important role of injecting new talents into the art form through their School of Acting and Design. One of the most reputed theatre schools of the country will hand certificates to the students of their 31st batch tomorrow, along with the batch's production “Champabati”, a true classic on two different levels. It was written by Syed Shamsul Haq, one of the brightest playwrights of the Bangla language, based on another literary classic – poet Jasimuddin's “Beder Meye”. Rantik Bipu has directed the production.
The staging will take place at the Experimental Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Syed Shamsul Haq's son Ditiyo Syed Haq and eminent dancer Munmun Ahmed will attend the certificate-giving ceremony.
The adaptation brings about social contexts into the literary classic, bringing in the recent violence against Hindus in Nasirnagar, and of Santals in Gobindoganj.
Prachyanat veteran Saiful Islam Jarnal was the supervisor of the production.
Earlier in 2013, dance school Shadhona had adapted “Champabati” for a dance-based production.
