At least eight workers were injured as a roof of an under-construction tannery building caved in on them in Savar on the outskirts of the capital yesterday.
The injured are Iqramul Haque, 26; Bokul , 25; Jewel Mia, 25; Ferdous, 35; Alamgir,18; Harun-or-Rashid, 18; Osman Sharker, 28; and Julfiqur Ali, 22.
The incident took place when some 30 workers were working on the roof of the first floor of under-construction Aziz Tannery in Horindhara area, said Wahiduzzaman Mollah, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station.
One of the injured said bamboos used to support the ceiling of the roof tilted during work, causing the collapse.
The injured were hospitalised. Two fire fighting units conducted the rescue operation, said a fire official.
