8 DB men to face 'false implication' probe

A man filed a written complaint with a Chittagong court yesterday mentioning that eight detectives tried to extort money from him and implicated him in a false case.

Moin Uddin, a computer operator, brought the allegations against Inspector Keshab Chakrabarty, Sub-inspector Sekandor Ali, SI Delwar Hossain, ASI Ajharul Islam, ASI Abdul Wadud, and constables Arman Hossain, Khorshed ALam and Ukil Ahmed.

Citing the complaint, Moin's lawyer Amin Ahmed said a DB team demanded Tk 3 lakh from his client after it had arrested him at his workplace in Chittagong Court Building area on December 21.

As Moin failed to do so, he was implicated in a false case filed with Kotwali Police Station, he said, adding that Moin later got bail from the High Court on March 7.

Accepting the complaint, the Chittagong court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the matter, court sources said.

Terming the allegations baseless and false, Inspector Keshab Chakrabarty of the Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police told The Daily Star that they seized fake revenue stamps worth Tk 2,000 from Moin, who lodged the complaint in a bid to weaken the case against him.
