A fire gutted 20 houses and six shops in Sadarghat area of Chittagong city yesterday.
The fire, originated from an electric short circuit in a house at Maillar Bil slum around 1:15am, soon spread to the adjacent houses
and shops, said Abdus Sattar Mondol, deputy director of Fire Service
and Civil Defence, Chittagong.
On information, firefighters rushed there and doused the blaze around 6:20am.
The fire burnt to ashes six thatched houses, 14 tin-roofed ones while six shops partially, the fire service official said.
