Dhaka city's footpaths are under the control of influential people and it will take time to free those from the illegal occupiers for ensuring hassle free movement for city dwellers, said Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq yesterday.
“It is easy to oust ordinary hawkers from the footpaths but difficult to evict big offices and markets as they are very much influential,” he told British Council's “Customer Service Week” themed “You speak, we listen” on its Fuller Road premises.
Inaugurating the programme, Annisul said many “big” offices and markets had encroached on footpaths and he had ordered the building authorities to free those.
Most are asking for __more time and the rest are not paying any heed, he said, assuring to take further steps.
He said 3,000 buses would be brought in while movement of private cars would be limited for better roads.
