BNP has written to the Chinese embassy seeking an appointment with President Xi Jinping during his mid-October two-day visit to Dhaka.   

Wishing anonymity, a BNP standing committee member told The Daily Star that they were desperately seeking the appointment. Several senior leaders said they were hopeful. During the visit, Dhaka is expected to seek financial support for over two dozen large projects.

On the visit, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Almagir said, “You will be able to know on time.” Party insiders say relations wrorsened when the BNP government allowed Taiwan to open a trade office in Dhaka.
