CU BCL blocks road for release of four fellows

Some 30 activists of a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit yesterday kept Chittagong-Hathazari road barricaded for half an hour protesting arrest of four of their fellows at Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati district.

Police arrested the four BCL CU unit members, including a leader, with arms yesterday morning when they were returning from an election campaign for a local Awami League leader at Baghaichhari, said BCL CU unit sources.

Witnesses said BCL men freed the road in Gate No-2 area about 2:00pm after Hathazari police assured them of looking into the matter.

Meanwhile, a case was filed with the Hathazari Police Station against 10 BCL CU unit activists for allegedly hacking a fellow activist on the campus on Saturday night.

Victim's friend Touhidul Islam, a third year Arabic student, filed the case naming 10 BCL CU men, including the unit's executive member Mahmudul Hasan Rupak.

On Saturday night, followers of BCL CU unit General Secretary Fazle Rabby Sujan hacked a third year student of Fine Arts Institute Mofazzal Haider Hossain, loyal to CU unit's President Mohammad Alamgir Tipu, before Shahjalal Hall around 4:00pm over a derogatory Facebook status about a AL city unit leader which one of Mofazzal's fellow posted.

Police are trying to nab the accused.
