A local paper has marked the 30th anniversary of EastEnders by printing a souvenir edition of the fictional Walford Gazette.
The BBC soap is filmed in Elstree, north-west London, in the area covered by the Borehamwood & Elstree Times.
The murder of Lucy Beale, which has been a major storyline for nearly a year, features in a spoof article on the front of the four-page issue.
The killer will be revealed later this week during a series of partly-live shows, including flashbacks to before Lucy died. These will culminate in Friday’s fully-live show, which will be broadcast to celebrate the show’s 30-year run.
The masthead for the feature was designed from an original copy used on the set at Elstree.
Martin Buhagiar, group editor of the Times and Independent series, which publishes the Borehamwood & Elstree Times, said: “Inside we looked at what plans the BBC has to mark the anniversary, [and] the corporation’s plans for the future with a new EastEnders set about to be built.
“We were also able to interview two soap stars about the live shows and their thoughts on the soap’s future.”
A spoof edition of Coronation Street’s fictional paper, the Weatherfield Gazette, was published last month by Manchester Evening News as a tribute to actor Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre Barlow for 40 years.
